Novelist Ichiro Sakaki and scenario writer Toshihisa Kio will be in charge of developing the story and setting of the comic adaptation of the “SOUL Fusers” Web3 user-producer IP co-creation project.
SINGAPORE, July 13, 2023 — Digital Entertainment Asset Pte. Ltd., a Singapore-based global GameFi company and owner of the PlayMining gaming platform, is jointly working with KADOKAWA Game Linkage Inc. to produce a comic adaptation of the new game title “SOUL Fusers”, scheduled for release this summer. The concept art and world setting of the game’s comic adaptation is now being announced.
The concept art and character design will be handled by Toi8, an illustrator known for works such as “Rikan Koukoku Hikikomori Zuichouhiden” and “Hououkyou no Jyugonshi”, Ichiro Sakakibara, a novelist and scriptwriter known for representative works such as “Outbreak Company: the Moe Invader”, and Toshihisa Kio (Elephante Ltd.), a scenario writer who has contributed to works such as “Mercenaries Blaze: Dawn of the Twin Dragons”.
■SOUL Fusers Comic Adaptation Setting & Story
In the mysterious setting of Fusion World, where enigmatic creatures dwell, the arrival of visitors known as “SOULs” caused the “Great Calamity”. The mystery and conspiracy surrounding Fusion World and SOULs are kept secret from the public by the Japanese government and the Agency for Abnormal Weather Countermeasures.
Seven years after the Great Calamity, Riku Amaki, a boy who lost his parents and suffered severe injuries in the disaster, becomes involved in an incident at the Agency for Abnormal Weather Countermeasures. It is there that he encounters SOUL Ember and reunites with a girl named May, who had saved him seven years ago. May is a “SOUL Handler” who can wield great power by making a contract with SOULs. Thus begins the adventure of Riku and May.
■About the Comic Adaptation of SOUL Fusers
DEA has started production of a comic series to adapt the world of the upcoming “SOUL Fusers” monster battle Web3 game this summer. The concept art and character design will be handled by Toi8, an illustrator who’s known for his work in “Rikan Koukoku Hikikomori Zuichouhiden” and “Hououkyou no Jyugonshi”.
In charge of worldbuilding the plot are novelist and scriptwriter Ichiro Sakaki, known for works such as “Outbreak Company: the Moe Invader” (Kodansha Ranobe Bunko) and “Chaika: The Coffin Princess” (Fujimi Fantasia Bunko), and scenario writer Toshihisa Kio (Elephante Ltd.), who is active in works such as “Mercenaries Blaze: Dawn of the Twin Dragons” (Rideon Japan) and “Alice Gear Aegis CS: Concerto of Simulatrix” (MAGES.). They will depict the adventures of the protagonists who meet and fight together with SOULs. DEA plans to publish the comic on the official SOUL Fusers website and as e-book media this summer. The manga artist will also be announced soon.

■ What is the “Web3 User-Producer IP Co-Creation Project” that SOUL Fusers is aiming for?
The “Web3 User-Producer IP Co-Creation Project” is a project with the theme of “creating new intellectual property together with the user community”. SOUL Fusers has already named original monsters mainly through the community on Discord, and DEA plans to implement various projects in the future.
DEA plans to grant DEAPcoin as royalties to users who contribute to IP creation and game development through various methods such as submitting original monsters. New ways to apply tokenomics to the co-creation process will also be explored.
Furthermore, to expand the IP deployment, DEA is launching the “SOUL Friends” project, which promotes collaboration with organizations that contribute to solving social issues. DEA also plans to launch the “SOUL Mates” project, which will see collaborations with manufacturers that produce non-game content. In both projects, DEA is considering schemes that allow user involvement and enable the acquisition of DEP rewards and revenue sharing. Details of these projects will be announced in a press release scheduled to be published shortly.

I’m Toi8 and I was in charge of the main visuals. I worked hard to express a world which has a futuristic feel while at the same time coexisting with nature. I hope that the characters I drew will coexist well with the monsters in the picture.

My current role in the project is to add or subtract necessary setting elements to the framework of a classic adventure story featuring a boy and a girl, which was proposed by the client. Personally, I am most fond of the SOUL “Holyhop”, who is Yu’s buddy (I used to have a pet squirrel), but I am also drawn to the vibrant design of Ember.
As for how the story will unfold, that is yet to come. As you can see from Mr. Toi8’s illustrations, the characters in this type of game are slightly older, so there may be a hint of more intense development. Please look forward to it.

The chosen children of destiny nurture bonds with their companions and monsters from other realms as they confront their fates. I am delighted to be involved in a story that embraces a concept I love.
On social media and elsewhere, the monsters in this work—creatures called “SOULs”—are being revealed one after another. My favorite is “Florazzel”. It’s enjoyable on its own, but when paired with the mysterious heroine, it becomes even more exciting. Please look forward to their active role.
